I love Taco Tuesdays!!!! They have a variety of "stuffings" and they are truly $1 unlike the $1 burgers at bar Louie where u have to purchase a drink and the toppings. Hard tacos are better because they come with more toppings than the soft. Also if you go 3-6pm there is a happy hour including $3 lime margaritas. I wish that included flavored margaritas as well but it was still yummy nonetheless. 3 tacos and a margarita for under $6.50. Can't beat that!!!!!

Solid and reliable - good, uncomplicated food at great prices with quick service. Their tacos and enchiladas are great and their guacamole is delicious. Ditto on the chips and salsa (plus all the little add-ins - pickles, jalapeños, etc - that they put out with them; nice touch). It's comfortable and easy and the portions are big. Though I'm not the biggest fan of their rice and beans - a little bland, especially the beans. It's not the best Latin American food in the world but it's by far the best I've had in Ann Arbor, and I'm highly content every time I leave.

I went to this place after seeing the reviews. I couldn't have been more disappointed. I met up with a friend from Iowa who came to visit. We decided Ann Arbor was a good meet up place and I actually looked up on Yelp to find this place. The service was pretty quick, which was great. The prices were eh. My bill came to around $13 and I just thought the food was awful. I had the chicken enchiladas. Being Guatemalan and having authentic food all the time I never expect the same quality anywhere and I don't judge on it either. It's not fair to the place. But the food here was so lackluster I couldn't believe it. The chicken was dried out, the tortilla it was wrapped in was tough, and there was next to no cheese which could have at least helped out a little in the flavor. I would say if you're craving Mexican food look up another place to go in Ann Arbor because I was not that impressed.

I love sabor latino.and I won't pretend I have a degree in journalism,or a proclivity to review food served in local restaurants,in my town.great place.closest to 'authentic' mexican in A2...been all over our fine country to the south of us.Tastes like I'm back in Jalisco or Naryiat....no,this is not the food you find in Cabo or Cancun....because those places serve gringo food.YUCK.great food.feel like i'm back on the beach in san pancho, far away from east coast folks....

I recently came here for the first time with a giant group for lunch. As someone who grew up with homemade Mexican food on a daily basis, I of course have high standards for my Latin food. That being said, I have to say that this is the best Mexican food I have had in Michigan. The closest to authentic I have found in this state! I had the enchiladas con carnitas -- the sauce had decent flavor and the pork was cooked well. I also had a nice tip from the waitress to order 2 rather than one ("I see we're watching our figure today" was the statement when I ordered only one. Why of course not, I said...so I ordered two! Good thing too, because their enchiladas are small). So...I am not jumping up for glee, but modestly happy that I have a place to return for some near-authentic Latin food when I don't feel like cooking it.

Sabor Latino is a one-stop-Latin American food-shop. The menu has dishes from Mexico, the Caribbean, and South America, which is nice b/c it's hard to find this type of food elsewhere in Ann Arbor. The food is very good, not great, and feels pretty home-made (a good thing). We had enchiladas--saucy and cheesy (ie yummy)--and a cuban pork dish--a little salty. You definitely get a lot of food on your plate, which is a very important feature. BUT, they put olives in the rice and beans. no good. This place would be nothing to scream about in other parts of the country, but it's probably the best Mexican in the area, and the prices are just what they should be. They definitely get credit for having such variety on the menu.

Been here twice with a Groupon. Great deal but great prices for Main St. And daily specials. Very nice staff, huge portions, great food!

Okay, so I don't know what's going on with all of the negative reviews lately. I rarely ever review restaurants unless I think they are being misrepresented...and this one certainly is. My boyfriend and I went to Sabor Latino yesterday to enjoy Taco Tuesday, we arrived at about 7:30pm and were told it'll be about a 25 minute wait, no problem. We expected that, Tacos are $1 and Jose Cuervo Shots are $2 and Corona is $2.50, we were surprised the wait wasn't any longer. We went outside (and actually like halfway down the block) and within 10 minutes the hostess had come all the way there to find us and let us know that our table was ready...many hostesses would not do so. Especially one who was dealing with groups of people missing members but still trying to get a large table, and rude patrons who always think the hostess is out to get them. NO! They're just trying to do their job people, give them a break! The ruder you are the harder it will be for them and the longer everyone has to wait. She was very sweet and seemed to be handling the night with a smile even though I heard other groups being whiny. She would even reassure patrons waiting by the bar that she was still working on getting their table, its nice to not be forgotten! We we seated near the bar at a table for four and we were promptly greeted by our waiter Neal, he asked if we've been here before, I said no and my boyfriend said yes, he offered any help and opinions and asked what we'd like to drink. We are that annoying group of customers that always forget to ask for water along with our drinks, no problem, he bought us our drinks immediately and went back and got us some water, nice guy (and he's left handed, I don't know why this amused me as much as it did). We were finally ready to order, we ordered 2 tacos each (all soft-shelled) (pastor and carnitas for me, shrimp and fish for the boyfriend), queso dip, and a side of jalepenos. This was the right way to go. Yes the tacos do not have loads and loads of toppings, but they're $1. We wrapped a jalepeno in each and added a little bit of queso. Delicious. It was also pleasant to be able to taste the meat. The pastor was absolutely delicious and the carnitas were great with the jalepenos and served as a nice chaser for my tequila shots. This is not Chipotle people, this meat tasted authentic and not filled with crap just so people would be tricked into thinking its delicious. Neal was great about checking in with us and kept bringing us shots as we asked for them. Different people also bought us our food so there'd be no wait if he was busy. At one point, Neal noticed that no one had bought us a round of shots and literally I saw him hurry to get it. That was sweet. My boyfriend also ordered two more hard shelled tacos and I ordered one more soft shell taco (I don't know why, I was already pretty full). We were $40 down but between us both we had: 1 Corona Queso dip + chips 7 tacos a side of jalepenos and probably about 8 or 10 shots of a solid tequila brand. Happily drunk and full we stumbled back home. If you went there and truly had an awful time, I'm sorry but I think this place is awesome and I will be back!

I can't believe that this was the first time I had been here. My friends RAVE about Taco Tuesdays there. So I got there, and ordered a margarita. It was pretty good, but not great. It was about $6.50 for the drink and I could definitely taste the sour mix. So I wasn't THAT hungry so I just ordered two tacos. At $2 each you could imagine a pretty nice taco. Nope. They were on the smallest corn tortilla you could ever imagine. I mean the tacos were tiny!!! I got one chicken and one shrimp. Literally, there was chicken (or shrimp) a whole bunch of onions and a sprinkle of tomato. The most plain and small taco I have ever seen. I had to ask for salsa and hot sauce and that didn't even make it tasty. The shrimp taco had something hard in it... I am still not sure what it was. It looked like it could have been dried up shrimp?? I also got a shell in mine. My friend got some kind of pulled pork dish that she loved. But then again she loves everything about this place. The dish did have green olives in the side, which I HATE, but I can't imagine that the pork was cooked with them. She had me try the pork and I about puked. It tasted salty/nasty. But then again that's what olives taste like to me. Not great. I probably won't go back unless someone drags me to taco Tuesday... and pays. I give it 3 stars b/c people love it here, and the dessert was good. And my stomach has been a jerk to me the past week.

Went with a group of thirteen and the service was able to keep up. Everyone was happy with the food. The crew was a bit disappointed that they do not have a liquor licence, but quickly forgot once they tasted the wonderful items on the menu. (SL is getting a liquor licence by the way in February apparently so fear not- carveza uno moment!) Great Cevice. Extremely affordable a la carte menu and a great number of options of coffees (Cafe con Letche etc.) We brought the baby and because they did not have a changing station in the restroom the manager offered his office for us to change her! This feels more like a family restaurant then ever and for some reason that really matters to me now. The atmosphere is not fantastic which is exactly how it should be. Take your friends and enjoy.

We are in love with Taco Tuesdays at Sabor Latino. Specifically, we're in love with the al pastor soft tacos, the chorizo, and the garlicky salsa. The last time we went to Taco Tuesday, my husband and I went through 2 1/2 little jars of salsa in the course of our meal. We had a couple of tacos each, and left happy, full, and only about $12 poorer. So good, you guys. So good.

The food here was great! I ordered the enchiladas covered in mole and it was good. I think I got too much mole, but few complaints. Although it's not the fault of the folks who work there, there was a communication problem when ordering. I wanted the enchiladas with no beans. The take out menu is worded differently than the dine in menu and the person taking my order and I had to go back and forth on what I actually wanted. Like I said, it wasn't the guy's fault. He was very nice and helpful despite the communication barrier. Anyway, I went home with what I wanted and it tasted awesome. And that's what mattered!

One word...Tacotuesday! I hope the Yelp Gods (spineless a-holes) won't censor this review, because I mention a daily special, but this is the best in town. Last Tuesday I went in to people watch. The place is full of the poorest of the poor in Washtenaw, who probably just cashed their unemployment checks for $1 tacos. You can sit back a watch these pigs line up at the trough and pretend to be humans. If you want to feel better about yourself, go here. The food is not bad either. Don't worry; it's not too authentic. The health department won't let a restaurant remain open if they serve authentic South American food (it's a dirty place). Get the soft tacos, unless you are ugly and fat (you know who you are), then get the fried, aka hard ones covered in sour cream.

Good Mexican food, friendly service. We came in on a Sunday afternoon so there weren't too many people in the place, which was nice. The service was friendly and quick. As far as Mexican places go, this one was A-OK. Just like most other Mexican restaurants, there were chips and salsa served before the meal and the food was good. It wasn't the greatest place I've ever been but not the worst. Good, quick Mexican in Ann Arbor.

I've tried Sabor Latino several times because I really like this style of food but they struggle with consistency. I've had good tacos in the past but more times than not the meat is dry and lacks flavor. In the past I've enjoyed their salsa but now it seems bland. I'd really like to support this business but usually when I give it another try I end up not going back for 4 or 5 months.

This used to be one of my favorite spots in Ann Arbor. Such great food at great prices. It's a walk down Main Street if you're coming from the State/Liberty area, but it can be worth the stroll. It's a nice, cozy place. They make a tasty taco and have Jarritos! I love orange Jarritos. My favorite dish is a Venezuelan dish that has roast pork. It is a special during weekends, so if they have it, make sure to dig in. My boyfriend wasn't really impressed with this place when we went, but I don't think he ordered the right thing. Try the flameado, though. It's not on the menu but they can make it. It's melted cheeze and chorizo dip. Delicious!

Awesome mexican food and I just moved here from California 3 weeks ago. I had the combination with a carna asada taco, pollo enchilada, and carnitas burrito. All the meat was awesome. Next time I'll probably just get a bunch of tacos because they were great mexican style tacos. Guacamole was incredible, I only had a little on the side, but I'd get more next time. Salsa was great, it's hard to find any decent salsa in the stores around here, all the major brands are way too sweet. It's a real bummer that they don't serve alcohol though, especially since they have a bunch of beer ads on the wall. Mexican food is SOOOO much better with a Tecate and a lime.

We used to eat at Sabor Latino all the time. Pretty much anything on the menu was good before they changed ownership. We tried it again last night, and the food was not good. My fish tacos were bland, and plated too hot, so instead of cabbage slaw, I had cooked cabbage on top of fish. The tortillas were too thick and doughy. Sabor latino used to serve the most delicious beans on the side. The updated version has changed to what tasted like canned black beans. And white rice, WTF? This isn't chinese. I don't remember what my husband ordered, but it was also bland. Second reason for a poor review and why we won't go back -- the restaurant itself was FILTHY. The floors were covered in grime, it smelled funny, and despite the fact it was dead on a Saturday night, there were tables that needed to be bused. Perhaps you are wondering why we even stayed... it was only because I did not realize the menu had changed and it was under new ownership. I had a craving for those little tacos they used to serve with a tiny wedge of lime. I didn't even see them on the menu. Maybe it's a good margarita spot in the evenings, but not a place I'd go to get a good meal. If you drink enough maybe you won't notice the grime.

I've been eating at Sabor Latino for a year or so now. Like many, I find it pretty average, but come back with some regularity. Nothing I've ever had here has blown me away, but I've also never had anything terrible. Taco Tuesdays are a great deal if you're down with street tacos--smaller and simpler than the tacos most folks are used to. I get mine with black beans, cilantro, and onion, but add a dab of guacamole and some salsa. Sometimes the service is utterly terrible. I mean the kind of terrible you have to try at. Outside of Tuesdays, you're generally better off heading to Taqueria la Fiesta on Packard if you want good Mexican in Arbor-Ypsi.

medicore at best. The food looked appetizing and smelled great, but was really lacking on flavor. The chicken nachos were pretty devoid of chicken, but the chorizo nachos were much better. The pork tacos were very tasty. I'll be back for Taco Tuesday, but would not go here for a regular fix.

    (2)
  • Kten D.

I really like their guacamole, really delicious! I would suggest you stay away from just ordering "chicken," as that is LITERALLY what you get, boiled chicken with no spices. Its pretty bland. If you order chorizo or the pork it has plenty of flavor. The empanadas are really yummy, and come with a awesome dipping sauce. Their salsa they give you is pretty watered down, and their beans and rice is definitely lacking something, which is really disappointing. UPDATE: On my third trip I got the veggie quesadilla for dinner. YUCK - two tortillas (NOT grilled, just out of a package) with some sauteed broccoli, peppers, and melted cheese thrown in the middle. Left a LOT to desire in taste, texture, appeal, everything. I don't think I'll be returning anytime soon.

Sabor Latino is completely lacking on service or, maybe, staff. I love going to Taco Tuesday with friends, but I feel like we always get the crappiest service. Although, the last Tuesday we were there, Sara (and Emily after we met up with friends) was our waitress, and she was very good. I was a bit surprised to get my drinks AND chips and salsa three minutes after we had ordered them. All of the other times, we had been waited on by guys. (Why are the girls so much faster than the guys?) There was one time we were being waited on by some guy who was way too busy chatting with his friends, and it was so hard to get his attention. But, the tacos are really, really good for $1 each, and I love the hot sauce trio they bring out to you if they remember. Also, I love the margaritas you get during happy hour. Last time I was there, my friend and I got a bit drunk after finishing a strawberry/mango margarita :) But, after happy hour, they are a bit expensive as they seem to be really weak. I've never had anything else on their menu as I've always gone to Taco Tuesdays. I will continue to go every Tuesday for the tacos and always hope that the service doesn't suck each time :P The tacos are worth it :)

Went here for restaurant week. The meal was decent, but deceptive. I wanted to branch out and ended up ordering Guisado de Puerco. This was advertised as including tomato & guacamole, neither of which were there when the meal came round (okay, a little tomato slice as garnish, but that doesn't count). That was a let down, and made me sad.

My husband I met some friends for dinner here this evening (party of seven). There was a small basket of chips and a small carafe of salsa on the table, after we sat down, the waitress brought us another basket and carafe. Our appetizers arrived and we asked for more chips and were told they cost $1.50 a basket. We agreed to get two more. Our dinner came and we asked for some more salsa, we were told those were also $1.50 per carafe. Seemed really cheap to us. My beans were so salty I couldn't eat them. All in all not a great experience, probably won't return.

I was sort of stunned at the complete lack of flavor in the food at Sabor Latino. I don't think there was seasoning (including, like, salt) of any kind on a single bean that I consumed here, and everything I ordered had beans. Also, any place that stuffs its dishes with lettuce is covering for something. Not horrendous - I ate my meal - but not worth describing any further.

Easily the best Mexican I've had in Ann Arbor. Very reasonable prices, good service, delicious food. No complaints at all. I'm sure Sabor Latino will become a staple of my Ann Arbor dining.

APPALLING! Let me first say that I have NEVER written a bad review before but this experience motivated me to do so. We chose this place b/c the online menu looks creative and homemade so we tried it for my husband's birthday on a Friday night. We sat outside and the tables hadn't been cleaned in weeks...really old food was stuck on them. I ordered a water with a side dish of limes and the limes were really old. My husband ordered ceviche which looked dubious and tasted worse. He felt nauseated after and this may have been why. He also ordered the chicken mole negro and although it was passable it was not worth $14. The mole tasted canned. He left most of it on the plate. I ordered the Mexican salad with shrimp which was actually inedible. The shrimp looked old and were coated and then frozen (I suspect). I'm not sure how this was achieved but they smelled and tasted like actual dog food. the salad it self had no flavor. I sent it back and explained to the VERY GRACIOUS server, Benjamin that I was not going to be paying for that order. He received all of our feedback with real kindness. Shockingly, they still charged us for the chicken dish. Think carefully before choosing this restaurant!

Having been here once before and not been impressed (I too have a mom who makes awesome authentic Mexican food), I decided to try out what the new management had to offer. I was excited. But once I ate, I was kinda disappointed. Got chicken enchiladas, which didn't have that much flavor. Chicken was decidedly dry, and there was barely any enchilada sauce...they were falling apart, not in a good way. Also, you don't get a choice of sauce, there's only red. Rice was standard, beans were good--authentic, but really needed salt. My friend got the pork tamales, which were pretty good. Nice and tender pork and well-seasoned. I love Mexican food, and I'll check them out again, especially for their brunch, which intrigues me. I think they need some work though. Oh, and their horchata was awful. Tasted like powder. Sadface.

Good quality food. Not to mention the a la carte menu is extremely affordable, great in a college town. The service can sometimes be hit or miss, but that never takes away from anything else.

This place used to be a favorite spot for me to stop in. My last experience was a recent phone-in order where I gave them more than 20 minutes extra time before I went to get it (since they seem to not normally have it ready when they say) and then they had lost the order. Turns out after standing there for almost 10 minutes that the food had been at the counter the entire time and no discount/real apology was given. I've had two friends frind foil and staples in their food recently. I'm done. Taco Tuesday was an awesome deal but not worth the health risk.

  • Julie D.

This used to be one of the best restaurants in A2. They have changed their recipes in the last year and started to be skimpy on the cheese. I used to think they had the BEST enchilada sauce ever, now it is bland, tasteless and disappointing. Sorry, Sabor, by cutting back on quality ingredients, you also lost a customer.

    (2)
  • Kelly H.

The (free) chips & salsa definitely weren't the highlight of the meal. I'm not that picky about salsa, but their salsa was pretty bland and runny. We ordered a vegetarian burrito and the steak fajitas. The veg. burrito was ok, but probably would have been better if it was actually hot. The steak was flavorful, but the cut of meat was pretty unappetizing. One plus is that they are open Sundays & open late (Thursday-Sunday). Not a bad experience, but given the plentiful restaurants, we'll probably opt to try somewhere else next time we're in town.

    (3)
  • Laura K.

We went there for brunch on a Sunday, and it was completely empty. It looked very dirty, with dust and dirty floors (lots of old chips on the ground). The food was too heavy and oily, and we definitely won't be going back. Another Main St disappointment.

  • Keith S.

Fantastic!!!! They have psychics working in the back. So you come in, sit down, order your food, eat 3 and a half tortilla chips with fresh salsa and then BOOM! Your food is ready... and its good. mmmmmmm! It's a bit early to go now. Do you think they are open for breakfast? Don't forget to try the imported Mexican Coca Cola. It's made with sugar cane instead of high fructose corn syrup. It tastes much better that way.

    (5)
  • Ezza S.

Totally a fan! The service and the food were great. I came with a large group (10), but they were able to make a quick spot for us and our server recommended some of the daily specials. Everything was really good and you should try the hot salsa if you are up for some spice in your life. Finish your meal off with flan!

Got a chance to check out the new ownership today and I'm excited about the modest changes. Sabor Latino has been a great spot for lunch or dinner and my teenage kids love it. The inexpensive authentic Mexican/Latin food has been great. The new owners have kept much of what was great about this place, the a al carte menu and low prices but have freshened it up and extended the menu. I wanted to try to compare the same items from the previous owner but wanted to opt for the new fish in my tacos along with the chicken enchilada. The fish (or shrimp) options are new but the tacos are the same great ones as before. We heard the cooks are the same but the waitstaff is mainly new. I liked it before and it's even better now. Looking forward to trying out some of the new items on the menu.

Went here last night. They changed their look, but not the menu or the chefs, so my husband and I was told last night by our waitress. The food is still great, and inexpensive. I love the fact that I can come into this place and get tasty tacos for $2. This is definitely our favorite place to go for good, inexpensive food.

I used to eat lunch a lot here when I lived in Ann Arbor, and I was impressed with their quick service, authentic food, and great prices. Years later, nothing's changed. It's a great place for a meal or a quick bite downtown. Great tacos. Food from all over Latin America - not just Mexico. Tasty!

this is your one-stop place for latino cuisine in ann arbor. they have mexican, brazilian, argentine, puerto rican... it's like the united nations of latino restaurants. can't really say it rivals the best mexican food elsewhere, like LA, but it's pretty much the best i've had in a2 so far. i like the friday night specials; wish they would have more than one on a given friday night. overall, a tasty and fun place

This place is holding down the fort - there's no other good place in Ann Arbor that tries to serve nice authentic mexican food. But it's not just mexican, they also try to cover all of South America and even some of the Caribbean. They try a bit too much, but it's still pretty good overall. They have great salsas and free chips. TRY: their rotating specials, they're you're best bet for dinner. I especially enjoy the roasted chicken and the ropa vieja. I also like their empanadas and tamales, which are always hot. The tacos are alright too.

Great Mexican food, perhaps some of the best in Ann Arbor. Not only is the food really good, but the staff is very friendly and the food is actually fairly cheap in comparison. The food is authentic. I actually never tried the Puerto Rican fare, but the Mexican sure was good. Except for when I'm in a BTB kind of mood, Sabor Latino is on the top my list.

I swung by here with a few friends for dinner the other night. I'll be the first to admit my taste buds are not that refined, but I was not impressed with the meal I'd ordered (Ranchero Steak). However, the service was friendly and informative, the portions on the plate are quite large, and like any excellent Mexican restaurant should, provides baskets of warm chips and salsa before your meal. They also gave us coupons for our next visit for 10% off, so I will definitely give Sabor another shot sometime.

DELICIOUS AND CHEAP!! need i say more?? seriously though, this is a small, locally owned restaurant, really authentic mexican food, free chips and salsa when you sit down, which is always a plus! Thier guac is to die for as well!

I was hesitant to come here after reading bad reviews. However, my friends convinced me to join them for Taco Tuesday. I absolutely LOVED my experience! On Tuesdays the tacos are only $1 each and they tasted pretty good. I would suggest getting hard shell because these come with more toppings. (I love the cilantro!) For choice of meat, i like pastor (marinated pork) and chicken. I didn't like fried pork that much. Overall, I would recommend the $1 tacos. The free chips and salsa was ok... nothing spectacular. I also explored other items in the menu. I tried pabellon criollo ($14). This dish comes with shredded beef, black beans, rice, and fried plantains with melted cheese. I did not like the beef--it was too salty. On the other hand, the fried plaintains with melted cheese was absolutely DELICIOUS! The cheese balanced the sweetness of the plantains perfectly! I ended up ordering more of these. The fried plantains with the melted cheese is not listed separately on the menu and is only served in the dish "pabellon criollo." However, if you tell the server that you only want the fried plantains from the dish, they can do that for you. I also tried the plantains they sell on the menu. It was $3.50 and very mediocre. I only recommend the fried plantain with melted cheese from the pabellon criollo dish. The fried icecream and the churro were delicious! The churro was served warm and fresh. The downside was that it was very crowded and the service was VERY slow.

I've been here several times. Famous for their Taco Tuesdays. The bad part is, their tacos just aren't that authentic or tasty; they're pretty greasy. Sabor Latino also skimps on salsa. There's several really good Mexican restaurants in Ann Arbor, but sadly none of the good taco places are located downtown. I don't eat here anymore, a couple little things finally made me cut ties: 1) the waitress not knowing what "al pastor" was and pronouncing it as "Pastor", and 2) being one of the many people that had my credit card stolen from here.

This place is dirty, poor employees are so stressed out, and they steal your credit card. They have great food though, chips were stale. Cash only tho. They will steal your credit card info for sure.

AVOID THIS PLACE! Besides the crappy food, there's a larger reason to avoid this place that others here have mentioned. Someone here is stealing credit card numbers. I came here with a party of 10 people and literally 9 out of 10 received fraudulent charges within a week, all of them at similar locations. The 10th person cancelled her card before getting a fraudulent charge, to be safe. One person in our party had a card that he only used one time at this place, so there's no doubt in my mind that the cards were stolen here. We went to the management to let them know what was going on and they did not seem to care or take our concerns seriously. Either they don't care or they're in on it. Consider yourself warned. Superior Mexican alternatives in town that won't steal your credit cards (and that I've been to) include: Isalita, Chela's, and T-Maz.

My name is Kristine K, and I have a new addiction -- Sabor Latino. First, you do not come here for decor or service. And, as to abolish any preconceived notion, this is not your Americanized spicy "Mexican" food. Sabor Latino is DELICIOUSLY mild, yet complex dishes most typical of Venezuela and Cuba. So, if not familiar with this cuisine, what can you expect? Probably the most properly cooked rice that I have eaten since living in Costa Rica, and rich, slowly cooked shredded meats. The garnishes are simple - delicious beans, shredded lettuce, and tomato, usually supplemented with another regional starch. The food is truly a delightful and authentic departure from other restaurants in the area. Attend with an open mind and palate. You will be happily surprised!

Your credit card number will be stolen (high likelihood, anyway) and you'll get some nice fraud charges when you're alerted by your Visa customer service rep. Don't do it. Or pay cash. I know of quite a few people that have had the issue and Sabor needs to get this figured out. Really bad form, since it's been going on for months.

I feel that the food is pricey for what it is. Also I don't like that on the weekends the menu is different. I wanted tacos and there is no option for tacos on the weekends :S. I ordered the Colombian empanadas, they were like OK, they need more flavor, something was so plain about them. If they had Argentinian empanadas, that would be amazing. I liked the flan, that I give it 5 stars it was good.

I am glad that I waited to try this place several times before writing a review. After five visits ,with three of them being simply atrocious and two visits that bordered on the feeling of blah, I have come to the realization that this place is far better in theory than in practice. Focusing on the last visit of Tuesday, which resulted in a total waste of time and required my lunch-time nourishment to be sought elsewhere, I will never step foot into this place again no matter how many co-workers plead and no matter the price-inducing special they advertise. Lets begin the food review with the very simple, yet seemingly impossible task of ordering a beverage. I asked for a water with lemon and an iced tea. The water arrived with no ice and I was told they were out of lemons. About ten minutes later the iced tea arrived and was pretty much a glass of brown sludge with a sour taste and smell. When the waitress finally came back she stated "I told them the tea was bad, sorry." After ordering the soft tacos with a side of rice and receiving three hard tacos with both rice and beans, I advised the food runner that I must have gotten someone else's order. A small debate ensued that resulted in my being told that I was wrong with what I though I ordered, and that I received the correct order. HUH?!?!?!? Well, ok, if you insist. When our original server finally came back to the table she apologized and offered to have the correct order made, by then nearly forty-five minutes had gone by and I was needed in court. When the bills finally came, my bill was for full price. One bill was for the wrong amount, and another bill was oddly divided into three separate bills. Bizarre. When mixed with the other less than pleasing experiecnes I am confident in stating that I will never return here again. Never. The food is typically cold, orders often incorrect, and the owner/manager clearly could not seem to care any less about quality and customer satisfaction than s/he does now. There are too many fantastic places to eat in downtown Ann Arbor that deserve the business than to waste time and money eating here.

Why 2? Why not 1 star? Good question. Service is so slow that I left and went to another restaurant. Place was dead. I guess a good soccer match was on or something.

The menu looked great, the food was such a disappointment. The chips and salsa were stale and bland. The Argentinian empanadas were good but the chimichurri sauce made it way better. That was the best part of the meal, that sauce. The shredded pork dish too salty. The pupusas were terrible. Stale, bad flavor, the toppings and fillings not authentic or even well prepared. The rice ok. The back beans old and dry. I should have checked out reviews before falling for the groupon offer. Don't make the same mistake we did. Our Waiter was very nice though.

This review is for Weekend Brunch only! They don't open very early. The decor does nothing for me They have a skeleton crew but... The coffee has cinnamon in it : ) The Waiter/Waitresses have always been very nice.] It is never busy for Brunch The Breakfast menu is Incredible(my opinion) Eggs done correctly, roasted pork, crunchy pork, fried plantains, black beans, Guacamole, rice, chips salsa, hot sauce, corn tortilla, horchata and plenty of stuff I have never heard of . I never knew they had a weekend Breakfast menu, now I will walk right past the broken egg to this spot for a lazy sunday breakfast.

Went here with my fiance, his mother, and my teenage brother. The restaurant was pretty empty, but the service was totally incompetent. We couldn't tell if our server was training, didn't care at all, or actually was Mr. MaGoo. He spilled water on the floor, ignored our requests for additional water, never came to check on us, and wasn't familiar with the menu. He did, however, do a lot of hanging out by the bar. One basket of chips and salsa is complimentary, regardless of how many people are at the table. For two hungry guys at a restaurant with slow service, that would be an issue if the chips were warm, salted, or more appealing. Since that wasn't the case, it wasn't an issue at all. I ordered nachos, which were pretty cold. The beans were not spiced at all, but the temperature was the main issue. The fiance got tostadas. He ordered them with no tomatoes, but of course it came with tomatoes. Since our waiter was completely MIA, he just picked around them. His mom ordered the chorizo and banana/plantain appetizer, which she found extremely spicy (this was the only item that had any spice at all). My brother ordered a burrito, also without tomatoes, but this was also not honored. The meat was completely cold, and the rest of the ingredients were tepid. It also fell apart as soon as he tried to pick it up. Unless something major changes, with both the menu and the service, I wouldn't return.

I used to love this place. I'm not sure if they got new cooks or what happened, but lately it has been really bland and gross. I'm not a picky eater at all and I ended up leaving half the food on my plate. I got fish tacos and the fish was tasteless and covered in flour, and the tortillas were bland and soggy. I was starving and in a hurry so I covered it in hot sauce, which made it edible but still not great. This is the third time in a row I've had a bad experience with the food, which I guess is my fault for continuing to go back - but it used to be so good and I kept hoping the bland food was a fluke. Service is hit or miss - I've never had really great service here, but about half the time it's competent. The other half the time is horrible. I shouldn't have to repeatedly track my server down across the restaurant to ask for a refill on water, the bill, etc. after waiting 10+ minutes for him to come check on my table.

The margaritas are good (especially on $3 margarita Monday), but the food is best avoided. Not just certain items, but pretty much every item I've ever ordered on the numerous times I've been has been a disappointment. The menu may say "authentic," but the items I've tasted have only a vague resemblance to what they are called. The pupusas were particularly disappointing. Stick with the drinks and you'll be fine.

Giving this place one star is being generous. While I liked the chicken fajitas, the beef fajitas were inedible. The meat was like shoe leather. Complaints fell on deaf ears and not once did a manager come to check out the problem. I don't relish having to pay for food that someone can't eat. And I've never been to a place that didn't even try to make it right. I won't go back, and I won't recommend Sabor Latino to anyone I know.

I was severely disappointed by the mediocre meal I ate at this restaurant. I ordered what the menu called an Iced Mojito. Thinking I was getting a refreshing minty drink I instead received a blended green disaster. It looked like blended grass and the waiter even said upon setting it down in front of me that he had never had one like that before and laughed. Don't even get me started on the service. He was pretty worthless. He came to our table maybe twice, to take our order and give us our bill. Someone else delivered our food. The complimentary chips and salsa were also hilarious. A huge basket of chips and about 3 tablespoons of salsa and you have to pay $1.50 for more. I ordered the taco salad with steak, yuck. The steak was partially tough and partially mushy and incredibly over salted. And I love salt. I couldn't eat the entire bottom half. When we finished eating what we could of our food, our waiter didn't come for 20 minutes so we had to pull him away from chatting behind the bar to bring the bill. He brought the wrong bill which was double the amount of what we ordered. So once again, we had to go up to the bar to tell him it was the wrong bill. The set up in there is awful, the wait staff is inadequate, but luckily the prices are low like the quality of the food. It's safe to say I will not be returning here or recommending it to anyone. We did not leave a tip.

This is the Main St. location that used to be a Mole Mole. This is my favorite Mexican place in the area. The tortilla soup, enchiladas, tacos , carne asado and mole mole chicken are delicious. The pico de gallo is great but their guacamole isn't remarkable.

I've only been here on Taco Tuesday. $2 jose cuervo shots. $2.50 coronas. $1 tacos. You can get full & tipsy with tax & tip for less than $20! Don't be fooled- $1 tacos are bare minimum, so if you want to add basic taco toppings (i.e. tomatoes, lettuce, jalepenos, onions, etc), you need to pay $0.50 5o $1.50 extra. Tip: chicken is a little dry. I love the beef tacos. Hard shell tacos come with more toppings than soft tacos.

Only worth going on Taco Tuesdays when they have $1 tacos and $2 coronas. Their food is not great, service is poor. But you can't beat their prices.

Went to use a groupon. Bad margaritas, skunky beer, meh food and horrible service. Took us well over an hour to get just the appetizer portion of our meal- the table next to us who arrived a half hour later had nearly finished their entrees by the time we got some taquitos. We complained and the server blamed it on the fact that one of us ordered fajitas- not sure what that has to do with our appetizer. Then about 3 minutes after the appetizer arrived our entrees came out. Everything was overcooked and bland. We've had better food for half the price at Los amigos. Don't go here!

Very South American influenced food! It is amazing! The wait staff is good, I love their television sets they have, and they serve tremendous re-fried beans! The tacos are unlimited for $1 on Tuesday but they also serve asado carne in addition to carnitas. You can tell this place puts in a lot of quality to ensure customer happiness. I enjoy the steak tacos the most perhaps, because they flavor it with herbs and onions.

My husband and I went there last weekend with a groupon. For a friday night, it was surprising empty inside although the tables outside did have people. The waitress was a sweetie and really cool. She even recommended a drink to my hubby that she had invented herself. My husband thought the drink was really good. They bring salsa and chips to the table, although not enough salsa, especially when you are with a guy that is 6'4"...salsa goes fast! The salsa's flavor was good. We also had the nachos with pork. Those were good, but needed more guacamole and sour cream. I ordered the fish tacos and hubby ordered the fajitas. The food arrived in good time. Everything was very fresh tasting, although we both thought it could use some more seasoning. Both dinners came with enormous portions of beans. The fish tacos came with white rice (like the kind that comes with takeout chinese food) which I though was a little different, but once I mixed it in with all the beans, it tasted alright. All in all, we were satisfied well enough that we would go again...probably on a coupon though.

we went yesterday 7/6/15. there was only one other occupied table, so we immediately were nervous. but the food was GREAT. portions were huge, and everything tasted wonderful. our server was friendly. the mexican pizza was my favorite - it's not like any other mexican pizza i've had. chicken, green olives, tomatoes and onions - YUM! these reviews are kind of all over the place - but our visit was good enough that i will go again. i hope it can manage to stay open!

FIrst time here last night, Taco Tuesday, as everyone says. I thought it was not bad at all, but definitely not, and pardon my smugness, Californian tacos. From what you can get in AA though, it is fine, and the staff was very friendly and attentive.

I was going to say it was a bit pricey, but then recalled that this was in the Main St area where everything is pricey. Par for the course. By the way, it's spelt "complimentary" not "complementary".

The food is pretty good but depending on who's working on what day, you won't know what you're getting. Ordered delivery through Grub Hub several times but what triggered this review is my most recent order. My food came missing two burritos and a Taco Salad that had, well, only lettuce. I called to let them know and the lady insisted that they "only forgot one burrito". Very unprofessional. I will be ordering my food from a different Mexican place from here on out.

As with many other restuarants in Ann Arbor, Sabor Latino offers average food with fanciful menu descriptions and high prices. My real problem with the place is the way we were treated by the owner on our last visit. He nterpreted the terms of our Groupon in a way that required us to actually pay extra for our dinner--more than the prices listed on the menu. When I tried to explain to him that this was clearly not right, he told me it wasn't his problem. I should take it up with Groupon. Obviously, we will not be back.

If you like three day old food, dried out rice and waitress that speaks limited English, then you have to visit this place! I couldn't understand and still can't understand why folks love this place... I was told this place is the bomb and great place to go eat Mexican food, but I walked out of there, disappointed and shaking my head to disbelief that they served Authentic Latin Cuisine.... where did 'authentic' go? I could gotten better stuffed pepper out of frozen dinner! From what I can tell, folks love Sabor for their $1 taco days... and maybe this is how they stay in business??? I don't know... but one thing I can tell you is that, the food I received - I wouldn't even serve it to my dog (if I had a dog). So... got a table for four people and while we waited for the other two friends, we ordered nacho's with Chorizo. We also decided to get a pitcher of sangria. Sangria came out first and man, was it sweet! Oh, I guess they are supposed to give you chips and salsa as soon as you get seated, that didn't happen... we actually got our chips and salas when our nacho arrived. Then few minutes later, the waitress came back and asked if we touched the nacho and we said no... she took it back..... confused? I know I was. Then about few minutes later, she brought it back... it seems they forgot to put queso on it... (ok, I get it, mistakes are made, no harm done here). The rest of the party showed up and we ordered. I went with Chiles Rellenos, I forget if I got it with pork or beef, but was looking forward to the stuffed peppers. As we waited, we chatted and enjoyed our chips, nacho's and our sweet sangria. Our food arrived and the first thing I noticed about my plate was how the rice was dried. I mean, it looked like it was in that warmer all day with no cover.... and as you probably guessed, the rice sucked... dried out and had no taste. I then dived into my peppers.... the peppers were easy to break into with my fork, which was nice... then as I ate the meat, the meat inside were little dried out... as I continued to eat the peppers, I realized that the peppers were really mushy... I can understand them making the stuffed peppers couple times a week, but this one looked like it was made 3 or 4 days prior and sadly the mushy pepper with the old meat didn't go well... Waitress asked if we wanted box for our food... NONE of us took our leftovers! We got the bill and I noticed they charged us $30 for the pitcher of the sangria when their menu said $18 a pitcher.. what gives? I asked the waitress and she said that it was $30 a pitcher and I showed her the advertising on the table menu and it clearly stated $18... she said we'll ask the manager and she came back with a new bill and the new price was $16. What gives? Why have the price on the table menu as $18 and charge the customer for $30? Overall, their chips and nacho were good... anything else, I couldn't give you my recommendations. Would I be back, most likely not after my first experience... I just hope they cook those rices often so it's not dried out and make sure their main courses are not left in the cooler for 3 days or longer... If you have never been, then try their $1 taco night first and decide from there if you want to go back or not. As for the service.. our waitress was very soft spoken, so it was hard to hear her... but I'll give her credit for talking with the manager about the price on our sangria... for that thanks... as always, go and try it out for yourself.

The frog legs on the side walk board almost turned us away, but giving it a try for the first time in 7 years. Friendly greeting, I was super excited to see that WOMAN wasn't there anymore. She was horrible. Nice decor inside and looks like there have been some upgrades. We were sat in the elevated area to the right. The menu was a little out of our league but we were eager to try something new. I order the butter garlic shrimp plate from the specials menu. Hubs got sopes and empenadas. He liked his order and ate every bit of it. I was happy to get is gauc and chimicurri sauce for my shrimp. The waitress gladly swapped the french fries for beans (shrimp plate comes with chips, cheese and french fries) When I received my plate, the shrimps were fried. I asked and she said that that was the butter garlic ones. They didn't taste like butter, garlic or and were over cooked in a frier. The queso dip is veleeta (or some variation of process cheese food, not real cheese) with rotell. If you like veleeta it's good. We do not. I am happy to say that I no longer swear off this restaurant but it will have to come a long way to get to preferred.

After reading through yelp and even going through the bad review, we decided to give this restaurant a try. But it was a huge disappointment. This restaurant has so much potential. They are located on a very good location, it has a good ambience and a nice feel to it. But the food is no where close, you expect it to be. I think they just have 4 to 5 main ingredients like the cooked beans, guacamole, fried or boiled chicken, rice and lettuce. They mix and match and serves these same 5 things in appetizers and entrée. Also these 5 things are not freshly cooked. It taste like they come out of frozen containers. In all, the the food is very disappointing. But if they change there menu and make everything fresh, this place has lot of potential.

We went there on Thursday night and the service was very subpar. We had to wait for about 15 minutes to get our drinks and for about 30 minutes to get our food. We only ordered a few quesadillas which should have not taken more than 5 minutes to make. The quesadillas did not have enough cheese and were not very good. Overall, it was a disappointing experience.

Good solid Mexican food at a comparatively reasonable price. I've typically only come for taco tuesdays ($1 tacos and $2.50 coronas is pretty great), though I have been a few other times as well. The ambiance is standard and pretty uninspired, and while the staff are friendly, they have a tendency to be a bit inept and inattentive... For example, I just went in with a group of six, and two of us went early to get a table. We ended up waiting about an hour before I asked why everyone else was getting seated before us. Apparently they have a policy of not putting you on the list until half of your party is there. Fair enough, but nobody mentioned a word about it until after I had already wasted an hour there. That is the kind of information they should have told me upfront so I could have made an informed decision, or at least told one of my other friends to hurry up and get there. As it turned out we still ended up waiting another 45 minutes after my friends got there before we got a table. Between waiting for the table, waiting for the food and waiting for the server, I ended up spending over three hours in that restaurant. While the food was decent, it was decidedly not worth the wait. Just another case of you get what you pay for...

Hubby and I stopped up after massages at AAIMT and on our way to the Museum of Natural History. Frozen margarita was good at about $6.... definitely quenched my thirst. Hubby ordered 20 ounces dos equis for about $6 as well. Chips and salsa were good.... I LOVE salsa and there wasn't really enough to satisfy my sauce love. It had a nice flavor though. We ordered a queso dip... I think it was called flameado or something like this. The description made it sound like it would have been a queso fundido some similar. It mentioned chorizo..... like other yelpers said, it wasnt present and wasnt very good. We ordered a couple of appetizers since they sounded good and we were not familiar with the menu. Both came out fried, which is ok but I wish we would have known. They were both slightly greasy but overall a good flavor. I think we would try it again. But will ask more question about the dishes next time.

I will admit, I am not an expert when it comes to Latin food. I ate here today for lunch and my feelings on this establishment are extremely mixed. I came by myself and the waitress seemed extremely annoyed that was not a party of 8. Sorry! I don't know if they don't have air conditioning or they just elected not to turn it on, but it was hotter than heck in the restaurant, which didn't make it very comfortable. I ordered a margarita without salt. I got a margarita with salt. Oh well. It was ok. Nothing special. I ordered a dish that I didn't know how to pronounce (I point at the menu when in this situation at resturants. Don't want to risk embarassing myself). It was chicken in a gravy/sauce over tortillas. Again, I don't proclaim to be an expert when it comes to Latin food, so maybe this is the way it should be, but I found it to be extremely bland. The saving grace was the guacamole on top, which was excellent. Even the salsa on the table was bland. My mom is german and she makes spicier salsa..... There were only 4 other tables occupied when ate lunch, but the waitress gave me my bill shortly after I got my meal (again, sorry I wasn't a party of 8). I won't be back.....

For this review, I nearly consulted one of my buddies to translate some not-so-flattering words into Spanish for comedic effect. But then decided it wasn't worth the effort for this restaurant (ohhhh, burn!). Chicken mole negro was muddy. No. Really. Like eating bland dirt. The chicken was at least decent breast but dry and unruly. The beans were like canned beans. But not like Trader Joe canned beans - like mess hall or elementary school cafeteria beans circa 1988. I really wanted to put them on a spoon, fling them across the room, and yell, "Food fight!!!!" The rice was less than average. The tortillas were bland. Voof, not ok. That wasn't even the worst of it. The ceviche tasted like Pledge®, the chunks of fish were HUGE, and the texture made my body recoil with the terror of possible food poisoning. I couldn't even eat an entire piece. (the waitress was very nice about it and took it back, also took it off our check) Half an hour after eating I genuinely felt like I was going to vomit (until I ate a tasty pastry and my stomach settled). My partner's stomach was uneasy too. Yeaaaaaaah... There's nothing latino about this place, except that when I walked out of there, without any previous knowledge of Spanish, out of my mouth came, "Eh. No beuno." A lesson I won't forget.

Went here with my girlfriend for restaurant week and it was an excellent deal! The meal however, was impressive only in the literary flair of the description. That's not to say it was bad, simply OK. Quantity was good, aspects of each dish were pretty good, but overall felt like a bland dining experience. Atmosphere was also fun, although a bit cramped (probably due to restaurant week), but nothing terribly special going on here.

Notice how all the good reviews are toward the bottom of the page? This place has really gone downhill recently. My friends and I used to come here all the time for Taco Tuesdays, but now I find myself disappointed when they want to do that. I understand how stressed out and busy the staff is that night, and how little they probably make in tips, but my sympathy can only go so far before they should just realize that they're not doing a very good job. Our name was skipped over twice on the waitlist, we waited forever to even get a hello once we were seated, the drinks came so slow it was last call by the time I got one drink, oh and thanks for the one basket of chips and salsa for 6 people. Never again :/

I've only even been on Taco Tuesdays, but I go with co-workers every Tuesday! Half priced margaritas and $1 tacos! The wait is usually pretty long, but we go right in the middle of dinner time. The tacos are also nicely displayed!

My only experience here has been Taco Tuesday. $1 tacos and $2 beers will earn you three starts anytime. The roasted vegetable taco was the winner. They make their own hard tacos - super fried and delicious. Two tacos, and the chips and salsa, are plenty for a meal. The fish taco was horrible. It was a scoop of canned fish. (I guess for a $1 you can't expect much more.) There was a long line, and the waitress skipped over us, so it ended up being a terribly long wait.

I went to Sabor Latino for Taco Tuesday. My favorite taco was the beef one. The chicken was alright, but the chorizo was absolutely disgusting. I couldn't even finish it. It tasted like mystery meat. I would not recommend it at all. Overall, not very good tacos, and the complimentary chips and salsa they serve were tasteless.

I had one of my best Tacos there. Love it! The meal for two is really a good deal, with one appetizer, two entrees and two desserts. Ceviche was good. Tacos were awesome. House flan was delicious. I would definitely go there again with my hubby.

I had been here a few years prior and went back last night for a friend's birthday. The food is decent and reasonably priced, and the best thing was the fried ice cream, which was delicious. The service is good but a bit slow, although to be fair it was busy as it was a Saturday night. When the waiter heard it was our friends birthday he gave her a free dessert which was nice of him, along with a candle in it. They have outdoor seating too which I imagine would be nice when the weather is nice out. I will go back to Sabor Latino for the fried ice cream and the flautas.

New management. I think they have made some good changes that have brought more business but at the same time made some unfortunate changes. No more items a la carte?? I don't always want to eat 3 quesadillas and when it comes to authentic Mexican... Very few things taste good reheated. The enchiladas are out of this world. Nothing compares. Also, the beans and rice are how I remember them since I was young. Super yummy. Love the hard shell tacos. Lots of vegetarian options. Good food is good and all but they hiked up the price like they became a tourist trap or something. I used to get an enchilada for $1.75. Now you are required to buy them in 3s and it costs $11. The 3 enchilada dinner used to cost less AND came with beans and rice (it was $10). I used to eat here 3 times a week. Now I come every couple months. Still yummy though. And the staff is super nice and always helpful.

This used to be our go-to place for a yummy cheap taco dinner. Al-la-care used to have great options. In the last year, especially since they've got their liquor license, they've tried to "nice" up the place. This pretty much consisted of limiting your options and increasing the price, but not changing anything else. Its still a dive (bad bathrooms, cheap seating, etc) but the changes took away the fun and made it more annoying than anything else. The wait staff are pretty new an inexperienced and had difficulty with the menu. Margaritas and shots can be cheap if you time it right, and you might need them. This just isn't the place to have a fancy restaurant, and if you're going to go that route you need to go all-out. I miss the old sabor :-(. Needless to say they've lost a regular customer.

We arrived at 9:45 and they were enthusiastic about allowing us to order...so nice! Most Ann Arbor restaurants are not gracious about seating people close to closing! I ordered a chicken tostada dinner which came with generous portions of delicious rice and black beans. The chicken was breast meat and piled high and lots of veggies too on crispy home made type tortillas. I also had soup that was lots of chicken with hominy and some greens...served with fresh veggies to add, and a crispy tortilla. The bowl was a generous serving, and had great taste! I loved it!!! My husband ordered an enchalida/taco combination which came with red beans and rice. It was outstanding! We eat Mexican food frequently and at various restaurants in Detroit and Ann Arbor. This food was not greasy, well seasoned, and unique. They use less cheese than the Detroit area places but pack in much more flavor. The enchalidas were beef, and the best and most flavorful we have had in Ann Arbor. The taco was very good also. We recently adventured into several restaurants mentioned in the results of a taco competition...what a joke. Those places were paper plate and plastic flatware type joints with a fast food atmosphere. The food was pretty basic. We were so happy to find Sabor Latino, which is a nice restaurant with great variety on their menu, full bar, easy to get to location, and various specials from different Latin countries. We will go back often. I am confident that no one reviewing this restaurant eats more Mexican food in more restaurants than my husband and I...this place is great! P.s. We had guacamole and the melted cheese/sausage appetizers which were also good. The atmosphere is not the reason to go and the restrooms could be cleaner, especially the floor....but the food is delicious!

After reading the menu I was very excited because it all sounded delicious. Went with a party of 4. Ordered the Fiesta Bean dip (I think... the one with chorizo in it) and the Guac. the Guac had a TON of onions in it (preference, I guess) but I thought the dip tasted like dog food -- I know what authentic chorizo tastes like and this wasn't even close. Tasted more like liver. The pupusas were terrible -- very very little cheese inside, tons of dough and very thick and hard. I have had authentic pupusas and these aren't even close. We always take our leftovers home, but these weren't worth taking home. The Ropa Vieja tasted very good, and the red beans and plantains were delicious, but the meat wasn't shredded beef. It WOULD have been shredded beef, only they didn't shred it, so it was dry. The Pollo Asado was pretty good. Chicken was tender, but not super moist. Didn't care much for the seasoning, but that's just personal preference. The Fajitas with chicken and steak were DELICIOUS. The meat was amazing and had a great grilled flavor. Some pieces were a bit on the burnt side but that's pretty normal with fajitas. The fried ice cream was pretty good, but I've had much better. The Horchata tasted alright but was pretty watery. Our waitress was excellent. She was very helpful and very nice and considerate. If the food was better, I would recommend this place whole-heartedly. As it was, I won't be back -- the food was mostly a big disappointment.

Two stars because price was good. Otherwise, food wasn't that great. We have the Ceviche Peruano which reminded us a lot of poke but the fish wasn't all that fresh. My husband ate the rest while I didn't feel like risking the chance at getting sick. We had the Queso Flameado which was impressive looking but lacked the rich chorizo taste - it was just very cheesy and salty. Also had the Chilaquiles with chicken which was very dry and again, salty. All in all, if I didn't have a groupon for this place, I wouldn't have gone based on the previous reviews and I probably wouldn't recommend this place.

I've been twice and enjoyed myself both times. They have awesome drink specials on Thursdays. The variety of Latin American cuisines is really impressive. The MOST amazing thing though was that somehow I dropped my wallet here on Friday night and I called on Saturday once I realized it. They had my very nice wallet AND the cash and ID and credit card were all there!! They are SUPER honest, and I will go back to patronize this business for years to come.

I ordered a burrito and was very disappointed with the taste. I ate a few bites, and asked to send it back. The waitress told me that her boss wouldn't like being taken away from what he was doing to handle my complaint. I asked her to please check with him. I was told that even if I didn't like my good that was too bad, and I had to pay for it anyway, but that I could order something else, and pay full price for that, also. I'm very disappointed, and I won't be back.

If I could give this place no stars, I absolutely would. I would only ever come here on Tuesdays for dollar tacos because the poor service and quality of food just don't justify paying full price. Tonight I went for Taco Tuesday and had the worst experience I've had in Ann Arbor. It took us THREE HOURS to complete our dining ordeal, which started with only two or three other tables filled at the restaurant - it was empty. I was with a group of 5 and we all ordered from the dollar taco menu. Now normally tacos will come relatively quickly, but we waited at least 40 minutes for our tacos. Those of us that ordered drinks never got them, and when our food arrived, three of the five orders had errors. The waitress blamed the kitchen for us getting the wrong food and then accused another server of stealing her tray. We asked for the corrected orders and the drinks. The correct tacos came pretty quickly (which means our original tacos should have come just as fast - our server just wasn't putting in the orders or was failing to go get them from the kitchen), and our drinks never came. A few people ordered more tacos, and this again took a surprisingly long time. While we were still waiting on those, the waitress came by and asked if we could use anything else. The person who never got his drink asked for it, she seemed stunned, and the people waiting on tacos said they just wanted those. Finally the tacos came and as soon as they did we all immediately asked for our bills. This was now TWO HOURS into the meal. Our waitress asked if we'd like the bill split, we said yes, so she went off to get them, but when she came back she said the computer wasn't working and she could only do one giant bill, so we'd have to tell her what we had. We told her the bill had an extra 10 tacos on it that we didn't order. She said ok and again disappeared. One member of our group went in search of her after about 20 minutes or more. She reappeared with divided bills, all of which were incorrect. We corrected her, she took our cards, and left. Then after another 20 minutes, the manager appeared and accused us of lying about how many tacos we had. He said there's no way that the kitchen made that many tacos and we never got them. We explained what had happened that far and he went to "look into it." Another 20 or so minutes pass, and the manager reappears and asked us what we all had to eat to adjust our bills, only AFTER he had already run them for the incorrect amounts. He went to adjust the totals (I'm highly confident I will have been charged twice) and eventually our waitress returned to give us the corrected bills - she just dropped them off and didn't say anything to us. So after 2 hours of waiting on dollar tacos and over an hour attempting to pay our bill and being accused of lying about what we had ordered, I can say I will never go back to this place. It's in no way worth it.

My husband and i had a big lunch here, and we'll probably return. Pluses: cheap, tasty margaritas, fresh, authentic styled food, chimichurri sauce. On the downside, the salsa and sauces were quite lacking in heat; we had to request spicier salsa, and none of the dishes we tried had any heat to them. We'll be sure to ask up front next time. Thye service was EXCELLENT, our server, despite being very obviously busy, never missed a beat, and best, never interrupted the conversation!

Not a fan of Sabor Latino. I've only been once, and I can confidently say I wont go again. The food wasn't good, it was bland and low quality. I had the fajitas, and they kind of tasted burnt-- if that's possible. Mixed drink- also bad. Queso- so bad I couldn't eat it. It tasted like stiff Velveeta with a few peppery notes. It was a Friday night and the place didn't have that lively feel that most A2 spots have. I did have a very nice waitress, however.

Decent for food and margaritas. The Caipirinha is a better choice. Must avoid during Margarita Mondays. It was the worst margarita I have ever had.

Sorry Sabor, Although I've been coming thru your door for a long, long time now, I think you've seen the last of me. This past Saturday we swang thru mid afternoon for a small snack of a few of the delicious carnitas tacos. Since we always get the same thing ( and never on Taco Tuesdays ) we didn't even open up the menu. After telling the waitress we just wanted two tacos and a drink each, she replied they were not available ala carte but you could get the trio platter ( no rice and beans ) with your choice of three tacos. So we go with that option. Now I've never had an issue with the quality or quanity of the food, the service or cleanliness of the restaurant and my wife and I have always enjoyed coming here, I was very upset after getting the bill realizing the price of the tacos have gone from $1.99 each during the week to $3.50 on the weekend brunch menu. This is "restaurant robbery" and will not be tolerated by my wallet. Luckily for me there are many other restaurants in Ann Arbor to spend my money at !!!!!! It was a good run and I won't lie.....I'll miss you Sabor Latino :(

We used a Living Social Deal here for dinner tonight. My husband had a huge salad, and said that it was the best salad he has had in a long time. And he eats a lot of salads! He also got a burrito, and it was huge, he brought half of it home. Their chips and salsa are yummy. Their happy hour is daily from 3-6 pm. I had a $3 margarita and it was awesome. I had a carnitas enchilada, it was delicious. Meat was tender and juicy. Their chorizo is excellent, I had the taco. I love that they serve street tacos - just topped with onions & cilantro. No cheese. Also had a spicy pork tamale. Yum. Love love love their $1 Taco Tuesdays. You can't beat that with a stick?! You can choose from so many different types of meat - chicken, beef, chorizo, carnitas, etc. If you go for lunch, try to get there before noon, it gets busy!! Waitstaff have been attentive. The only downside is the physical restaurant. My husband describes it as "a dump". I really don't care. I just want good food. They have a kid's menu too.

I had a lot of food left on my plate. The food is exceedingly plentiful and heavy, and it didn't taste very good. Too salty, and overcooked, except the empanada dough was undercooked. The staff is prompt, and the kitchen is extremely fast, but the ambiance is dumpy with dark colors, and out-dated flooring. Perhaps the kitchen is too fast, actually. TIP: The lunch menu is extremely limited, so if you do go, try dinner.

I wish I could give a 0-star review, because I would. I thought I would give this place a shot, even after seeing the bad reviews, I thought "what can do wrong at $1 taco tuesday?" Well, everything. The place was busy due to their Tuesday special they call 3T Tuesday, but we were seated in a matter of minutes. Service, however, is another story.. We sat at our table for 30 MINUTES before we were even GREETED! I don't care how BUSY a restaurant is, that is ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE! I have experience in the restaurant industry and if I had ever done that, I would have been fired immediately. There is no excuse. We should have taken the lack of service as a hint to maybe leave, but unfortunately, we stayed.. How can you screw up tacos? Ask Sabor Latino. Their "grilled vegetables" are DEFINITELY not grilled. They're microwaved.. at least, that's how they tasted.. bagged, frozen vegetables. Soggy tortillas made them nearly impossible to eat. Oh, & where's that guacamole I asked for when I placed my order & reminded you as you were walking past our table? Never got it. Thanks, though.. I'll just steal it from my friend's odd nacho dish. I went in to ask for the manager and the server/host at the front went to get one but came back alone saying "He's really busy right now, can it wait?" Um, no.. Eventually, he made it over to our table and offered us a free beer for our trouble. I didn't want ANYTHING for free. I just wanted to show my face to you since you'll never see it in your lousy restaurant again. I'd rather have Taco Bell's $.89 tacos and eat them on the curbside.

I had heard a lot of great things about this place.... I was under-impressed by the service and cleanliness. The "Burrito Challenge" is huge and the taste was fine for a 7 lb, $17 burrito. I am not sure how to impart the true size of the burrito, it was bigger than my head and could have been worn as a scarf. My buddy ordered the Wednesday Lunch special, which was a taco, quesadilla and something else with beans.....no rice. He got it with pork and everything tasted exactly the same. The pork was good, but it was strange that the taco tasted just like the quesadilla. The rice and beans were the worst though, what gives? I have had better rice from a bag bought from Krogers. The crowning moment for me was when the server asked how everything was and I told him my Mohito was god awful and he saw that I had only taken one drink and yet I still had to pay $7.50 for it. I guess if you were an alcoholic the Mohito would have been good, but I really do not enjoy straight up rum. I could hardly taste the lime or the mint, just rum. I was intrigued by some of the other menu items and will give it one more shot. My parting thoughts were "Dirty version of Chi Chis" The bathrooms did seem more authentic than the food, if run down and dirty is what passes for authentic. The music was too loud for me to call and see where my buddy was.

Huge fan of the margaritas (only $3 on thirsty thursday and VERY strong!) and the fajitas (my boyfriend and I always make sure to get an order of the steak and shrimp). I've tried the ceviche a couple of times, and it was extremely fishy-tasting. I've also tried the mexican pizza, taquitos, and wet burrito and they were all good, but not amazing. Also be sure to try the agua loca (or "crazy water") which is a delicious drink with cinnamon and nutmeg flavors.

Great food. My boyfriend and I come here at least twice a month. He gets tacos which he says are really authentic and delicious and I get sopes which i know are really authentic and delicious. Dont try to over complicate your meal here, all of their simple options are great.

Went on a tuesday night while visiting AA, was a little loud but thats only because of two really rude tables that the restaurant had no control over. We got $1 tacos $2 corona and even a $1 shot of jose quervo. Our sever was really nice (unfortunately I don't remember his name). Great place to bring friends and have a good time. I don't recommend kids, at least on Tuesday. Also get the hard shell tacos, they come with more toppings than soft shell.

I've been here a few times now, all $1 Taco Tuesday visits. You can't argue with a $1 taco especially when it's fresh and delicious as mine have always been. The guacamole is also really good and the chips and salsa are fine. I also highly recommend the paloma cocktail. The beans and rice, however, I absolutely do not recommend. No flavor whatsoever and my rice today was abysmal. I really can't say I'm a fan of the atmosphere. Stuffy, humid, dark, spare and uncomfortable. The bar is kind of a sorry sight. Also, there has been borderline embarrassing confusion at the host stand on each one of my visits which is always off-putting and annoying. Service has been consistently nice, although maybe a bit harried. I love Mexican food so I think I'll be back to try something other than tacos.

I've been here twice, and loved it both times. First order of business: Taco Tuesday = love. The hard-shell tacos are especially awesome, since they come in homemade shells and come with more fixins on them. I especially suggest the Pastor taco (pastor is a kind of marinated pork). The chorizo was ground, not in the sausage form I expected, and tasted mostly like allspice - not recommended. The chicken fajitas were also delicious, and the order came with a lot of food. Guac was also great. Margaritas, delicious and plentiful. $6.50 (unless it's Thirsty Thursday, then it's even cheaper).

I've been to Sabor Latino about three or four times now. It's awful. But I keep going hoping that maybe the first second and third times were just bad luck. I need to accept that, yes, this place just is this bad. I want it to be good, but it consistently disappoints. The food is tasteless and awful. The only redeeming quality is the free chips and salsa -- which are pretty good. I've tried their tacos, their Puerto Rican food, burritos, Cuban sandwich -- everything tasted bland to bad. The service is just as awful as the food, too.

This is a nice blend of Mexican and Latin American food. Others tell me the South American dishes are authentic as well - I will believe them. The menu is set up to order a few smaller dishes. Not quite tapas, but you can pick and choose without breaking the bank. I had two beers and all the food I could eat and I don't think I spent 20 bucks. The food would benefit from having chili sauces handy - it was a little bland for my taste. But the menu is interesting and I will go back for more! I loved the ceviche tostadas, and the pastilles were like the ones we have in Honduras. The empanada was the weakest of the dishes I had on this visit, but I will be back for more in the future! If you think "Mexican food" is a big plate of corn flour, grease, and brown sauce - this is a place where you can find something healthier and more authentic! Stop in and give it a try. The help was friendly and knowledgable and we watched futbol on the TV at the bar. Awesome!

Sabor Latino isn't the kind of Mexican restaurant a lot of people are used to expecting. The menu has influences from Mexican regional cooking, from the American Southwest, from Peru, and Puerto Rico. Much of the food is prepared simply - let's say its "family-style". I love that I can get a meal that's not loaded with grease or lard. I am crazy about the soups - especially the green pozole! The salsa they bring with the meal is okay, but if you ask, they bring you a great assortment of salsas. Add those salsas to a plate of Tuesday's $1 "taco-truck-sized" tacos - and a little extra joy comes into your life. Now they are also a full-on bar with Margaritas and an array of tropical inspired drinks. In a couple of weeks I'll drag my epicurean cocktail club over there and we'll see if they can mix us up something decent. Go. Enjoy.

I would give this place 5 stars for the food and ZERO for the service if I could. It used to be decent service, now it sucks; it's as if you are personally imposing on the servers by coming in. Other diners that came after us had their appetizers before we even had a chance to order, we had to summon our 'waitress' via other servers to get water, silverware, etc. Finally, our appetizer arrived after we were nearly done with our entrees. Uhhh, thanks... Obviously I will never go back to this hole, and although I would suggest you try some of their dishes (hard to find Central and South American fare), spare yourself the aggravation of bad service and get takeout.

This place used to have really consistently good food. New owners a bit ago and they are still trying to get things right. I always ordered the taco plate and the meat was tasty and cooked perfectly. The grade of meat seems much cheaper now and it tastes like it is boiled. My complaints out of the way, they are slowly winning me back. They have a great brunch menu and have some really good dinner specials.

Taco Tuesday. Every Tuesday their variety of tacos are $1 each all day. Veggie, bean, chicken, chorizo, etc. The veggie are actual roasted veggies: broccoli, zucchini, etc. it is so good. It is busy, so don't expect the promptest service, and don't even expect the most perfect taco. They are more than for $1. I look forward to taco Tuesday all week. Their brunch is good too, although i haven't been there in a bit.

I've heard people rave about Sabor Latino, how great, how authentic the food is. I found it to be good, but not exactly exciting. Others may appreciate Sabor Latino because they offer Puerto Rican and Cuban specialties in addition to the usual Mexican fare, and it is nice to have some more unusual options. Unfortunately, the Puerto Rican menu is only available on Friday nights and the Cuban menu only on Saturday nights. I went with a companion on a Sunday afternoon, and we were limited to the Mexican offerings. The main dishes average around $10 or $11, but you can eat much cheaper if you order items other than the entrees. My companion ordered a cheese and bean quesadilla from the appetizer menu, and I got one cheese and onion enchilada from the ala carte menu. The food was nicely presented on very hot plates, and we had a satisfying lunch for around $7, including the tip. One of the nicest touches here is, oddly enough, the complimentary chips and salsa. Instead of serving you a free basket of ordinary chips with ordinary salsa, they give you light, crispy tortilla chips with three different sauces plus a dish of pickled jalapenos. My companion liked the traditional tomato, pepper and onion salsa, which was mild but flavorful. I raved about the pico de gallo which was fresh and amazing. They also offered a smooth green salsa that was both sweet and peppery hot.

I was so "meh" about this place that I'm not even going to write in prose, but rather, in a listicle: --Chips stale --Salsa boring --Tacos bland --Prices much higher than they used to be (shockingly so, actually) On the other hand, service was good and extremely fast. But I don't think I'll go here again.

I've been a few times since the new management came in, and the food is still really tasty. I like their new weekend brunch menu they offer... I had the sopes and they were really good. I've also been trying to order more of their dinner specials, today I had the mole chicken and I was really happy with it! Solid latin american food, and I really like the new direction this place is going. Also of note, since the new management, service has been spot on. One con (I should have mentioned it in their feedback sheet - next time) - I wish the salsa was a little spicy, its good, but no heat at all. Still your best bet for Latin food in Ann Arbor!

Two words: Taco Tuesdays. On Tuesday, tacos are $1 a piece. While I'm a corn tortilla freak, someone else I know tried it with hard shells and said they were also quite good. I was afraid of trying this place after new management, but Taco Tuesdays have convinced me otherwise. The tacos on the corn tortilla are quite authentic: marinated beef, cilantro, onion. That's it. Delicious. Some may want their tacos gringo style with melted cheese and sour cream. Not my thing, but I'm sure they'll make them that way for you too. Service was pretty good (which is a nice change of pace from the old owners). To compare between old and new management though, I'll need to try some of the staples of the old place, like the enchiladas. We'll see....I shall return!

I really WANT to like Sabor Latino. And for the most part, I do. I love their (cilantro and garlic-heavy) salsa, but last time I went (July 2010) the chips were stale. I love their chorizo -- not too spicy, seems to be higher quality than some chorizos I have had -- but the chicken is so boring. If you order chicken tacos, etc. be forewarned that the chicken is, like, boiled, no marinade, no nothing... and inside of the enchiladas and tacos there is just chicken... which I guess is ok if you use the guacamole and salsa to liven it up, or get enchiladas that have cheese and sauce on top (but not inside). I hate to say it, but I think Sabor Latino has a decent reputation mostly because there is so little good Mexican food available in Ann Arbor... it's okay, decent even, but not spectacular. If you want to eat on the cheap, order a la carte, not one of the combination plates (a single burrito is a nice size and relatively cheap). Or go on Taco Tuesday. Oh, and they have Mexican Coca-Cola, which is a DEFINITE plus.

Sabor Latino has great food and really good deals. The place might be a little too packed occasionally, but I suppose that reflects the quality of the food. Pick up orders are extremely efficient and I have to give 5 stars to Katie, who is amazingly helpful and competent. I work in a large hotel and constantly place large orders for our group. I have to admit she always gets them right - with additions, modifications and all - so, go Katie! And btw - Taco Tuesdays are the best!

  • Lena L.

The service has never been good here. The food tastes really gross too. It is good if its piping hot, but when it cools down not so much. You can taste the staleness of the fish especially when the melted cheese has enough time to harden up again. So...if you are weary of tacos and fish tacos even more, don't go to this place. the fish taco was not supposed to be THAT fishy and the chorizo was even worse. It's not worth the money or time to attend on dollar taco night either because they will mess up your order, take forever, spill food on you, or never have enough time to clean the stickiness off the table. Im not a women scorned, believe me! I've been there 3 times and never once ever has the table not had spills or something sticky on it. The place is packed with college kids on tuesdays, so that explains part of the reason. Its no excuse for the bad food and service. The owner should have foreseen the crowd level and thrown out his old fish or pork meat and pre-ordered an extra shipment of prepared seasoned pork meat! Don't even try this place. Its not worth your time.

Although it took 30 minutes to get a table for our party of six and my veggie tacos were admittedly on the bland side, I'll definitely be back for Taco Tuesday because it's so affordable and Mexican is my downfall. Next time I'll just have to ask for more heat. Our waitress repeatedly forgot our drink orders and had to ask our party for what we drank at the end of the meal. All this aside, one Corona, one margarita and three tacos cost only $12 before tipping which is music to a poor student's ears.

While traveling from California to Michigan, we were excited to find a restaurant that would offer a variety of authentic delectable foods... Instead, what we experienced was bad service, and food that was inconsistent (even during our one meal there)and less than desireable! My husband and I shared a Ceviche appetizer, so our daughter ordered her own as her main dish-this portion of Ceviche was so spicy hot that it literally burned her mouth! (The first batch was pleasantly heated.) We had our entire family gathered from all over the country and my neice was going to be turning 12 the next day, when we would no longer be together....So, I asked the waiter if there was something they could do to support us celebrating Raquel's birthday. His reply was," Ineed to see some ID regarding her birthdate".We were astonished and told him it most certainly was tomorrow and that she had NO ID! He then replied that they only celebrate ON THE EXACT DAY! It was ridiculous, all I wanted was to have them sing Happy Birthday to her, and I WOULD HAVE GLADLY PAID FOR ANY DESSERT for her!!! Well, things continued down hill from here: --It took far too long before any of us had been greeted or given menus...and the chips, salsa and water took even longer! -Our glasses were left empty more than they were filled. -The chips were okay and the salsa was good, but we had to beg for them to refill them as needed...and then it took forever! -The place was practically empty (a clue we missed) and yet we had poor service and the food took far too long for what we ordered. -The food was only so-so...not worth remembering. -Then, it took forever, again, for our bill to come! NO BUENO SABOR LATINO!!! Perhaps we are spoiled by the amazing Latino restaurants in little ole' Sonoma County (wine country)...'cause our experience here was just plain awful! :(

So, I've eaten at Sabor Latino a handful of times, and mainly because my office is a short block away. I was never really satisfied, until yesterday. Most times I've gone, I had the vegetarian burrito (dry version), hoping it would be better each time. It never really was, but this time I ordered mine without guacamole. It was better, not only because I usually find guac to be a little rich, but also because it let the rest of the burrito stay warm enough! Most of the time I had it, the cheese was completely un-melted and the beans were too quickly cooled off. When I ordered without the guac it was soooo much better, I can't even explain. If you're a huge guacamole fan, consider ordering on the side. My other suggestion, order a side of salsa, because you'll want some sort of wetness added at your leisure. The salsa here is pretty good, I'd have to say. It has a much more roasted tomato flavor than others I've had in the area, but I think it has good flavor. Sorry, can't analyze the meat dishes this time, my husband hasn't joined me yet. I'll be back for a carnivore review at some point.

The waitstaff is usually friendly and accommodating, although sometimes a big neglectful. We usually hear other tables being offered the specials, but have not once been told them ourselves. The food is good, we always order the same thing, tacos and sopes.

A bit overcomplicated for my taste. I ordered tacos, beans and chips. To my disappointment, the chips were cold and slightly stale, as if they had been sitting out for awhile. The "beans" were a strange stew of pintos and several vegetables I could not recognize. The tacos are of the soft tortilla, onions and cilantro variety-when they arrived, I was impressed- quite fresh and flavorful.

My favorite Mexican restaurant in downtown Ann Arbor. Often visit for lunch on Taco Tuesdays... sometimes have to wait a few minutes for a table, but it's worth the wait for delicious (and cheap) tacos. Free dessert on your birthday, as well - I recommend the Tres Leches cake!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
